1st Place Winner: Stacy Longo- Fashion Institute of
Technology
Stacy finds geometry, shape
and form to be mesmerizing. She believes that she was
made to design, knowing that this is the only career
that she would ever want, and the only career in which
she feels happy and fulfilled. Eventually her main goal
is to be working for a label that is eco-friendly. She
believes that this is not just a trend that will
eventually drift off; it is a way of
life.
2nd Place Winner: Shirley Gallagher - Fashion Institute
of Technology
Shirley is currently in her
sixth semester of Fashion Design at FIT pursuing a BFA
in Special Occasion (eveningwear/haute couture). Ever
since she was able to pick up a pencil, it has been her
dream to be a designer. Shirley finds it very
important, especially now, that student designers and
designers find a way to incorporate environmentally-
friendly aspects into designs.
3rd Place Winner: Erika Schuster -Fashion Institute of
Technology
Erika Rae is a big believer in “living green” and often
uses sustainable and recycled materials in her work.
Ever since she can remember, she has been sketching and
painting. Her grandfather, a former FIT student, helped
her sew her first garment in the third grade and since
then she has been hooked.
Honorable Mention: Caroline Rossingol- Parsons School
of Design
Caroline, a native from
France, moved to New York to study Fashion Design at
Parsons. Clothes are her true
passion. She
has had internship design experience with DKNY, Mayle
and VPL. She has a B.A. in International Business from
Rennes Business School (France) and an MBA from De
Montfort University, Leicester (UK) and worked in
marketing (Paris and Pennsylvania) for a leading French
Cosmetics Brand, Yves Rocher.
Honorable Mention: Theresa Chan -Connecticut College
Theresa is a recent
graduate from Connecticut College holding a B.A. in
Behavioral Neuroscience. During her last few years of
undergraduate school she began to self-teach the art of
dressmaking, a practice that she explored more
following her graduation. In her designs, Theresa
strives to produce bold and unique pieces utilizing
uber feminine silhouettes and playful color-ways. It is
her belief that when designing with respect to the
environment, it should be approached as an inspiration
and not a compromise.
